The ZEISS AT LISA tri trifocal intraocular lens costs from about £3,600 per eye in the UK in 2026, with bilateral trifocal refractive lens exchange typically £7,500–£10,000 all-inclusive. The AT LISA tri toric, which also corrects astigmatism, usually adds £300–£600 per eye. The fee covers the consultant surgeon, the premium lens, full biometry, the day-case operation and the refractive after-care that trifocal lenses need. The NHS does not fund trifocal lenses in 2026, so this is a private, self-pay upgrade. Compare the wider market on our trifocal IOL cost guide.
What is the ZEISS AT LISA tri?
The AT LISA tri (839MP), made by Carl Zeiss Meditec, is a premium trifocal intraocular lens implanted during cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange. Its smooth diffractive optic splits light into three focal points — distance, intermediate (around 60–80 cm, the screen and dashboard zone) and near (around 35–40 cm for reading) — so a single lens can deliver a full range of vision. A toric version (AT LISA tri toric, 939MP) is available for eyes with corneal astigmatism.
Its aim is spectacle independence for the great majority of daily tasks once both eyes are treated. The AT LISA tri is one of several established trifocal platforms in UK practice; your surgeon selects the lens that best matches your eye anatomy, pupil size and lifestyle. Read more about the operation itself on our cataract surgery page.
ZEISS AT LISA tri cost in the UK, 2026
Price depends on the surgeon, the clinic, whether a toric lens is needed and whether you are having cataract surgery or a clear-lens exchange. As a 2026 guide:
An initial consultation with biometry and OCT is typically £200–£350 and is often redeemable against surgery. 0% finance over 24 months is offered by most CQC-registered centres — see our finance options. If you prefer a wider range-of-focus lens with fewer night-time halos, compare the ZEISS AT LARA EDOF lens and the general EDOF lens cost.

A transparent AT LISA tri package should include the consultant cataract and refractive surgeon; the premium AT LISA tri lens; full pre-operative assessment with swept-source biometry, corneal topography and OCT of the macula; the day-case theatre and anaesthetic; take-home antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops; and the structured post-operative reviews that trifocal lenses need while the brain neuroadapts. Confirm in writing whether the quote is per eye or bilateral, and whether a toric uplift is included. See the full national picture on our cataract surgery cost page.
AT LISA tri vs other premium lenses
The choice of lens is the single biggest factor in how satisfied patients are after surgery. A trifocal such as the AT LISA tri prioritises glasses-free reading; an EDOF lens prioritises smooth distance-to-intermediate vision with fewer night-time halos; a monofocal gives the sharpest single-distance image but needs reading glasses.
- Trifocal (AT LISA tri, PanOptix, Synergy, FineVision) — best spectacle independence; some halos in the first 8–12 weeks.
- EDOF (AT LARA, Vivity, Symfony) — continuous distance-to-intermediate range, fewer dysphotopsias; readers often still needed for fine print.
- Monofocal — sharpest distance vision, minimal halos, reading glasses required. The standard NHS lens.

Who is a good candidate?
Trifocal lenses such as the AT LISA tri work best for people with a healthy retina and optic nerve, a regular cornea (no keratoconus), a stable ocular surface and realistic expectations about the neuroadaptation period. Heavy night-drivers or those with low tolerance for halos are often better suited to an EDOF or monofocal lens. A consultant assessment with full biometry confirms the right choice for your eyes.
