What the pages are for
People arrive here with one question — do I need surgery, and if so what will it involve and cost — and usually with some anxiety attached. Our pages are written to answer that question plainly enough that you can have a better conversation with a consultant, not to replace the conversation. They describe procedures, suitability, risks, recovery and typical private prices in the UK; they do not diagnose, and they do not tell you what to choose.
Clinical accuracy
Clinical statements are drawn from UK sources: NICE guidance, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, NHS information and the product licences of treatments approved for use in the UK. We only describe treatments that are approved and available here; a procedure or drug that is licensed elsewhere but not in the UK does not get a page, however often it is searched for.
Pages that describe a procedure are reviewed by consultant ophthalmic surgeons before the review is attributed. Where a page carries a “medically reviewed by” line, that consultant has read and approved the version you are seeing; the line links to their profile and GMC registration. Where a page has no such line, it has not been clinically reviewed and says nothing that should be relied on clinically.
Prices
Prices are shown as typical ranges for private treatment in the UK and are checked against clinics’ published price lists at the date on the page. They are a guide to what to expect, not a quotation; your quote comes from the clinic after assessment and depends on your eyes, the technique and the lens or implant used.
Commercial independence
The site is free for patients and is paid by the clinics and providers we introduce you to, as set out on how we get paid. That fee does not decide which treatments we describe, how a clinic is presented, or whether a page tells you that a procedure may not suit you. No clinic, surgeon or manufacturer can pay for a recommendation, and we do not publish sponsored content or paid reviews.
Corrections and reviews
Every page shows when it was last updated. Clinical pages are re-reviewed when the guidance they rely on changes and at least once a year; price pages when the price lists they draw on are refreshed. If you believe something is wrong, use the contact form and say which page. Reports are checked against the source and material corrections are made on the page itself.
