How 0% cataract finance works

Interest-free finance lets you pay for surgery in equal monthly instalments instead of all at once, at no extra cost — the total you repay is exactly the surgery price.

  1. Get your quote — after your consultation and biometry, you receive a fixed, all-inclusive price for your chosen lens.
  2. Apply online — a short application to an FCA-regulated lender, with a soft-then-firm credit check; decisions are usually quick.
  3. Choose your term — 0% interest-free is typically offered over 10–12 months; longer low-rate terms are available for larger amounts.
  4. Set up your Direct Debit — with a no-deposit option or a deposit of your choice to lower the monthly figure.
  5. Have your surgery — treatment proceeds as normal; you simply pay your agreed monthly instalments.

Am I eligible?

  • Aged 18 or over and a UK resident, usually with at least three years of UK address history.
  • In regular income and able to meet the monthly repayments.
  • A satisfactory credit check — the lender, not the clinic, makes the lending decision.
  • No existing cataract finance that would over-extend affordability.

Approval is always subject to status and the lender's criteria. If 0% interest-free is not available to you, a low-rate interest-bearing plan or an insurer top-up may be, and our team will talk you through the options.

What you can put on finance

  • The full surgery fee — one eye or both, monofocal or premium lens.
  • Premium-lens upgrades — finance the whole cost of an EDOF or trifocal lens, not just a base price.
  • The insurer top-up — if you have private medical insurance that covers a monofocal but you want a premium lens, the premium-lens top-up can often be financed.
  • Toric (astigmatism) options — included in the financed price where needed.

Other ways to pay

  • Self-pay in full — a single all-inclusive payment before surgery.
  • Private medical insurance — many policies cover cataract surgery; premium lenses may need a top-up. See insured patients.
  • Low-rate interest-bearing finance — for longer terms or larger combined-procedure costs.
  • NHS — cataract surgery is available on the NHS with a monofocal lens, though waits vary; premium lenses are not offered. Learn more about the procedure on our cataract surgery page.

Cataract finance FAQs

Can I get cataract surgery on 0% finance in the UK?
Yes. Private cataract surgery can be spread over interest-free 0% finance, typically across 10 to 12 months, through FCA-regulated lenders and subject to status. For a monofocal lens at £2,900 per eye that works out at around £242 per month over 12 months, with no interest added — you repay exactly the surgery price. No-deposit options are available.
How much is cataract surgery per month on finance?
Based on our all-inclusive prices spread interest-free over 12 months, a monofocal lens is about £242 per month per eye (£2,900 total), an EDOF lens about £316 per month (£3,796 total) and a multifocal or trifocal lens about £358 per month (£4,300 total). For both eyes you double the monthly figure, or choose a longer term to reduce it. Your exact payment is confirmed in a written quote after consultation.
Is there really no interest, or are there hidden fees?
With a genuine 0% interest-free plan the total you repay equals the surgery price — there is no interest and no arrangement fee. The surgery price itself is all-inclusive of the consultant, theatre, your lens and aftercare. The only thing to watch is that 0% terms are time-limited (usually up to 12 months); longer repayment periods are offered as low-rate interest-bearing finance, which is clearly set out before you sign.
Do I need a deposit?
Not necessarily. No-deposit 0% finance is available subject to status. You can also choose to pay a deposit to lower your monthly instalments. The right structure depends on your preference and the lender's offer, which our team will go through with you.
Will applying affect my credit score?
The lender carries out a credit check as part of the application, and a completed credit agreement is recorded on your file like any other. Many lenders begin with a soft search that does not affect your score, moving to a firm search only if you proceed. The lending decision is made by the FCA-regulated lender, not by the clinic.
Can I finance premium lenses or just the standard option?
You can finance any lens choice, including premium EDOF, multifocal, trifocal and toric lenses, as well as an insurer premium-lens top-up. The full all-inclusive price for your chosen lens is what goes onto the finance agreement, so you are never limited to the standard option by paying monthly.
Can I pay the finance off early?
Yes. Interest-free agreements can normally be settled early at no penalty, and you will simply have paid the surgery price. For interest-bearing plans, early settlement usually reduces the total interest payable. The exact terms are set by your lender and shown in your credit agreement before you commit.
