MiSight 1 day is a soft, daily-disposable contact lens designed specifically to slow the progression of myopia (short-sightedness) in children, while correcting their vision day to day. In a landmark three-year clinical trial it slowed myopia progression by around 59% on average. At our partner clinics the MiSight myopia management programme starts from £60 per month, all-inclusive of lenses, training and progression monitoring. It is most effective when started early — typically between the ages of 8 and 15 — before short-sight has had time to advance.

What is MiSight 1 day?

MiSight 1 day is a CE-marked soft contact lens made by CooperVision and the first contact lens of its kind shown in a long-term study to both correct and control childhood myopia. Each morning your child puts in a fresh pair; each evening they simply throw them away. There are no solutions, cases or cleaning routines to manage.

The lens uses ActivControl Technology: alongside the central zone that sharpens distance vision, concentric treatment zones gently focus part of the incoming light in front of the peripheral retina. This optical signal slows the elongation of the eyeball — the underlying physical change that drives worsening short-sight — without your child being aware of anything other than clear, comfortable vision.

Why myopia control matters

  • Myopia is rising fast — more UK children are becoming short-sighted, and at younger ages.
  • It rarely stands still — once it starts, short-sight usually worsens through the school years.
  • Higher myopia carries lifelong risk — greater short-sight is linked to a higher chance of retinal detachment, glaucoma and myopic maculopathy in adulthood.
  • Slowing it down protects the future eye — every dioptre of progression prevented lowers long-term risk.

Is your child's prescription getting stronger each year? A myopia assessment measures axial length and explains whether MiSight is suitable.

Myopia control options

MiSight 1 day is one of several evidence-based ways to slow childhood myopia. The right choice depends on your child's age, prescription, lifestyle and how comfortable they are handling lenses. Your specialist will talk you through each route.

Many families combine approaches — for example MiSight lenses by day with low-dose atropine drops at night — where progression is rapid. For older teenagers and adults whose prescription has stabilised, vision-correction options such as implantable contact lenses (ICL) or EVO ICL surgery for high myopia may later become appropriate.

What happens at the fitting

Getting started with MiSight is straightforward and completely painless. The first appointment focuses on measuring your child's eyes and making sure lenses are the right choice.

  1. Myopia assessment — we measure the prescription and, crucially, the axial length of each eye, which is the key marker we track over time.
  2. Eye health check — the front and back of the eye are examined to confirm lenses are safe and suitable.
  3. Trial lenses — MiSight lenses are applied in practice so we can check the fit, comfort and vision.
  4. Handling training — your child (and you) are taught how to apply, remove and care for the lenses confidently.
  5. Take-home supply — once you're happy, your child starts wearing their daily lenses, usually 10+ hours a day, 6–7 days a week for best effect.

Settling in & monitoring

Most children adapt to MiSight within a few days. There's no downtime — they wear the lenses to school, sport and screens as normal. Here's what the journey looks like:

Week 1

Getting used to applying and removing lenses. A short adaptation period is normal; most children are confident within days.

First month

Comfortable all-day wear becomes routine. A brief check confirms the fit and answers any early questions.

Every 6 months

Progression monitoring: we re-measure axial length and prescription to confirm the lenses are doing their job.

Year on year

Lens power is updated as needed. The programme typically continues through the teenage years until myopia stabilises.

Frequently asked questions

At what age should my child start MiSight?
MiSight is designed for children, and is most effective when started early — typically between 8 and 15 years old, while myopia is still progressing. Starting sooner gives the best opportunity to slow short-sight before it advances.
How well does MiSight slow myopia?
In a three-year clinical trial, MiSight 1 day slowed myopia progression by around 59% on average compared with a standard single-vision lens, and reduced eye elongation by a similar margin. Results vary between children, which is why we monitor axial length every six months.
Is it safe for a young child to wear contact lenses?
Yes. Daily disposable lenses are very safe for children because a fresh, sterile lens is used every day and there is no cleaning or storage to go wrong. Studies show children manage daily disposables extremely well with proper training.
Will MiSight correct my child's vision as well?
Yes. As well as slowing progression, MiSight corrects short-sight so your child sees clearly for school, screens and sport — replacing their glasses for the hours the lenses are worn.
Can MiSight be combined with atropine drops?
In some cases, yes. Where myopia is progressing quickly, your specialist may suggest combining MiSight lenses with low-dose atropine drops. We'll only recommend this after assessing your child individually.
