About Mr Nish Srikantha
Nish Srikantha is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon with a subspecialty interest in glaucoma, alongside a high-volume cataract practice. He has more than 20 years’ experience in ophthalmology, 17 of them serving patients in Hampshire, and holds both a fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and a PhD.
He graduated from St George’s, University of London in 2004, trained in ophthalmology in the Wessex region and completed a glaucoma fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He holds a substantive NHS consultant post at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, and a large part of his practice is the long-term management of glaucoma in a community setting.
He holds a PhD in ophthalmic research from King’s College London; his research there, supported by a Fight for Sight research fellowship, includes a method for measuring the viscosity of the eye’s vitreous gel (PLoS ONE, 2022). While working on his PhD he also completed a higher education diploma in medical teaching, and he is an educational and college supervisor for doctors in training, a GMC-recognised trainer and an examiner.
