Private refractive lens exchange costs from £4,300 per eye at Eye Surgery Clinic, with a typical both-eyes total of £8,000 to £9,500 depending on your lens choice. The price is all-inclusive of your pre-operative assessment, biometry, surgery, theatre and hospital fees, your premium IOL, drops and full follow-up. An initial consultation with OCT imaging is £340.
Refractive lens exchange prices
RLE replaces the eye’s natural lens with a premium intraocular lens (IOL). The lens is chosen with your surgeon based on your eyes and how you want to see — monofocal for crisp distance vision, toric to correct astigmatism, or an EDOF/multifocal lens for a wider range of vision where suitable. The figures below are all-inclusive.
RLE is permanent and prevents a cataract ever forming in the treated lens. Because the technique is very similar to lens-based cataract surgery, you can compare lens technology in detail on our implant lens pricing page.
Not sure which lens is right for you? A consultation includes the measurements and advice you need to choose with confidence.

Payment options
Payment terms depend on the clinic. Blue Fin Vision says flexible financing is available to spread the cost of lens replacement surgery, with personalised payment plans. Sapphire Eye Care offers the option to pay in instalments leading up to the procedure for certain treatments, so ask whether lens replacement surgery is one of them. Ask for the interest rate, any fees and the total repayable in writing before you agree to credit. See the payment options at each clinic on our finance page.
Using private medical insurance
Refractive lens exchange is an elective vision-correction procedure, so it is usually self-funded rather than covered by private medical insurance. If you have early lens changes or another clinically indicated condition, see our guidance for insured patients and our team can advise on whether any element may be claimable.
