Heather Baldwin is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon whose practice focuses on oculoplastic (eyelid and periocular) surgery and the management of blepharitis and eyelid-margin disease. After specialty training in oculoplastics at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Western Eye Hospital, she worked as an NHS locum consultant in oculoplastics at Western Eye Hospital and in general ophthalmology at St Peter’s Hospital and the Royal Surrey, and then as a consultant for Specialist Health Services, providing NHS general ophthalmology in Windsor and Maidenhead. She has practised for around 25 years and has been a consultant ophthalmologist since 2012, seeing NHS and private patients.
She trained in medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, where an MRC Fellowship took her to University College London (UCL) for a first-class BSc in anthropology. Between ophthalmology training posts in Southampton, at St Thomas’ Hospital, London and in Oxford, she held a Frost Fellowship at St Thomas’ Hospital, earning a Doctor of Medicine (MD) for research on corneal wound healing. During her oculoplastic training she published papers and a book chapter on an open-sky technique for correcting a drooping upper eyelid (ptosis).
She performed around 1,000 cataract operations during her training before choosing to focus on oculoplastics and diseases of the front of the eye. She no longer performs intraocular surgery, but assesses patients before and after cataract surgery, advises on premium lens choices and carries out a high volume of YAG laser capsulotomies.

My name is Heather Baldwin and I’m a consultant ophthalmologist. I’ve been practicing for around 25 years and my specialist subjects are oculoplastics, blepharitis and dry eye and I also have a large YAG capsulotomy practice and I see pre and post operative cataract patients. I see occasional patients who have other queries that the optician isn’t sure what to do with.
