Paying monthly for laser eye surgery depends on the clinic’s own financing, and no clinic group we work with publishes a no-deposit offer. Blue Fin Vision says it offers flexible financing to spread the cost of laser eye surgery over several months, with personalised payment plans tailored to your budget. It does not publish a deposit, an interest rate or example monthly payments, so those are the terms to ask for in writing before you agree.

Is there a no-deposit option?

Not as a published offer. Blue Fin Vision’s laser eye surgery cost page does not mention a deposit either way. Its initial and follow-up consultations are free and advanced diagnostics cost £250, so ask what, if anything, is payable before surgery and whether it counts towards the final price.

Sapphire Eye Care, the other clinic group we work with, does not list laser eye surgery among its treatments.

How the financing works

Blue Fin Vision says flexible financing is available to spread the cost of laser eye surgery over several months, and asks patients to contact its team for a personalised payment plan. Because the plan is set with you, the monthly amount, the length of the plan and any interest are not published.

What the price includes

Blue Fin Vision says its laser eye surgery price includes:

• An initial consultation with a named consultant
• Advanced pre-operative imaging and ZEISS topography assessment
• Wavefront analysis and custom treatment planning
• The consultant-led ZEISS excimer or Ziemer femtosecond laser procedure
• Same-day discharge with a post-operative care plan
• All follow-up appointments and post-operative drops
• Consultant support throughout recovery

Consultations and diagnostics

Because the initial consultation is free, you can find out which procedure suits your eyes, and what it costs, before you commit to a price or talk about a payment plan. The NHS says the type of laser eye surgery or lens surgery that is suitable for you will depend on factors such as your age and your eye health.

Compare totals, not monthly figures

A lower monthly payment can come from a longer plan rather than a lower price, so compare the total you would pay, what it includes and whether both eyes are covered. Blue Fin Vision’s published prices include both eyes, and its cost page says treatment starts from £4,500 including your consultation, advanced imaging, surgery and follow-up. When you compare clinics, check whether a quoted price is per eye or for both eyes, and whether scans and follow-up appointments are included.

Planning for the day of surgery

The NHS says laser eye surgery usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes, usually in a hospital or at an eye clinic, and that you can usually go home on the same day. It advises not driving home on the day of your surgery, and says you will be advised when you can drive again. Most people have some side effects, such as glare, halos or blurred vision, which normally improve within a few months, so allow for follow-up appointments when you plan time away from work or other commitments.

The NHS and insurance

• The NHS. The NHS says laser eye surgery and lens surgery are not usually offered on the NHS. It says you may be able to get laser eye surgery on the NHS if you have an eye condition that could lead to loss of vision, or problems with your sight that cannot be corrected by wearing glasses or contact lenses.
• Private medical insurance. Blue Fin Vision says private medical insurance does not typically cover laser eye surgery, as it is considered an elective procedure, although insurance may cover initial consultations and diagnostics. Confirm your cover with your insurer.
• Other options. Lens-based treatments such as refractive lens exchange are priced differently; see our guide to paying for lens replacement surgery.

Before you agree to pay monthly for laser eye surgery, ask the clinic:

• Is it credit? Whether you pay after treatment under a credit agreement, and if so, the name of the lender.
• What is the interest rate? The annual percentage rate, and whether it changes after an introductory period.
• What will I repay in total? The total amount repayable, not just the monthly figure, including any fees.
• Is there a deposit? How much, when it is due and whether it counts towards the price.
• What does the plan cover? The consultation, surgery on one or both eyes, and any later treatment.
• What if my treatment changes? For example, if surgery is postponed, or you are found not to be suitable.
• Is there a credit check? Whether applying affects your credit file.
• Can I repay early? Whether you can clear the balance early, and whether a fee applies.
