An intravitreal injection is a quick outpatient procedure performed under sterile conditions with numbing drops — it is not surgery and you stay awake throughout.
- Anaesthetic drops numb the surface of the eye and the area is cleaned with antiseptic.
- A small clip gently holds the eyelids open and more numbing is applied.
- The faricimab is injected through the white of the eye (sclera) with a very fine needle — most patients feel only brief pressure.
- The eye is checked and you rest briefly before going home. The whole visit takes around 10–20 minutes.
