The Tecnis Eyhance Toric (Johnson & Johnson) is an enhanced monofocal intraocular lens with astigmatism correction. It costs from £3,600 per eye at our partner clinics, all-inclusive of consultation, surgery and aftercare. Eyhance keeps the sharp distance vision and minimal glare of a standard monofocal, but a continuous change in lens power adds a meaningful boost to intermediate vision — the dashboard, the cooker, the computer. The toric version simultaneously corrects astigmatism, so you are not left needing glasses for that on top of everything else.
What is the Eyhance Toric lens?
An intraocular lens (IOL) is the permanent artificial lens implanted during cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange. Lenses fall broadly into monofocal (one focus), enhanced monofocal or “monofocal-plus” (one focus stretched slightly), EDOF (extended range) and multifocal (full range). The Eyhance sits in the monofocal-plus category.
It looks and behaves like a monofocal — which is why it shares the monofocal’s great strength: clean, glare-free night vision. But its surface power increases gradually from edge to centre, extending the focus just enough to bring intermediate distances into clearer view. The Toric version adds correction for astigmatism, an irregular corneal shape that blurs vision at all distances and affects roughly one in three cataract patients. Because Eyhance is still classed as a monofocal, it is often the lens of choice for patients who want a little more than basic monofocal vision but are not suited to, or do not want, a multifocal.
How Eyhance Toric compares
Choosing a lens is a trade-off between range of vision, spectacle freedom and night-time glare. Here is where the Eyhance Toric sits:
If you do not have astigmatism, the standard Eyhance enhanced monofocal offers the same vision profile without the toric correction. The EnVista Aspire is a comparable monofocal-plus alternative. For the complete range, see implant lens pricing.
Eyhance Toric cost breakdown
Our pricing is all-inclusive — there are no hidden theatre, lens or follow-up charges:
- Self-pay: from £3,600 per eye for the Tecnis Eyhance Toric. Your exact quote is confirmed at consultation once your astigmatism is measured.
- Both eyes: most patients treat both eyes within one to two weeks; ask about combined pricing.
- Insurance: recognised by Bupa, AXA, Aviva, Vitality, Cigna, WPA and others. Because Eyhance is a monofocal, it is frequently covered with little or no top-up — we confirm this with your insurer.
- Finance: 0% finance available to spread the cost.
For full price comparisons across every lens type, see our cataract surgery cost guide.
Want to know your exact price? A consultation includes the corneal topography needed to confirm your astigmatism and give a firm, all-inclusive quote.
Book a lens consultationWhat happens during surgery
Implanting the Eyhance Toric is the same gentle day-case operation as standard cataract surgery, with one extra step — aligning the toric lens to the exact axis of your astigmatism.
- Numbing drops are placed in the eye; no needles needed for most patients.
- A tiny 2.2–2.8mm self-sealing incision is made at the edge of the cornea.
- Phacoemulsification removes the natural or cloudy lens.
- The Eyhance Toric IOL is folded, inserted and unfolded into the lens capsule.
- The lens is rotated to the precise astigmatic axis and checked. The eye is shielded and you rest before going home.
Recovery week-by-week
Recovery is the same as standard cataract surgery — most patients see clearly within days.
Day of surgery
Vision hazy for a few hours. Eye shield the first night. No driving or heavy lifting. Drops begin.
Days 1–3
Distance and intermediate vision sharpen. Mild grittiness is normal.
Week 1
First review confirms the toric lens is well aligned. Most return to driving and work.
Weeks 2–4
Vision refines. Drops continue. New reading-glasses prescription at week 4–6 if needed.
