What happens during ICL surgery
ICL surgery is a day-case procedure under local anaesthetic eye drops and takes around 15–20 minutes per eye. You are awake but feel no pain.
- Numbing drops are applied and the eye is gently cleaned and prepared.
- A micro-incision (around 3mm) is made at the edge of the cornea — no stitches are usually needed.
- The soft, folded ICL is inserted through the incision and gently positioned in front of your natural lens, behind the iris.
- The lens unfolds and settles into place; the central port of the EVO ICL lets fluid flow naturally.
- The eye is checked and you rest briefly before going home the same day.
Recovery week-by-week
ICL recovery is quick and comfortable for most patients.
Day of surgery
Vision is hazy for a few hours then clears. Mild watering is normal. Rest and begin your drops.
Days 1–3
Most patients see clearly and return to light activities. Avoid rubbing the eye and swimming.
Week 1
First review to confirm the lens position and eye pressure. Many are back to work and driving.
Weeks 2–4
Vision is stable and any mild night-time halos settle. Normal exercise resumes.
Beyond a month
Enjoy stable, high-definition vision with no lenses to handle. Second eye scheduled if not already done.
