Private lens replacement surgery costs from £2,900 per eye for a monofocal intraocular lens, £3,796 per eye for an extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF) lens, and £4,300 per eye for a multifocal or trifocal lens at our partner clinics. The price is per eye and all-inclusive — it covers your consultant surgeon, theatre and hospital fees, biometry scans, the IOL itself, post-operative drops and your follow-up reviews. Most people treat both eyes, usually within one to two weeks of each other, so the total cost is roughly double the per-eye figure.
Lens replacement surgery price per eye
Lens replacement — also called refractive lens exchange (RLE) or clear lens exchange — uses the same technique as cataract surgery: the natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens chosen to correct your focus. Because the price is driven almost entirely by the type of IOL you choose, clinics quote per eye rather than as a single package.
The table below shows typical 2026 UK self-pay pricing per eye at our partner clinics. These are all-inclusive figures, not deposits or "from" teasers with extras added later.
- Monofocal IOL — from £2,900 per eye. Sharp vision at one fixed distance (usually far), reading glasses still needed.
- EDOF IOL — £3,796 per eye. A continuous range from distance to intermediate, with reduced reliance on glasses.
- Multifocal / trifocal IOL — £4,300 per eye. Near, intermediate and distance vision for the greatest spectacle independence.
- Toric versions — from £3,400 per eye. Any lens type can be ordered as a toric to correct astigmatism at the same time.

Book a lens assessmentLens (IOL) options and what each costs
The lens you choose is the single biggest factor in your price — and in how well you see afterwards. It is permanent, so the decision matters more than saving a few hundred pounds. Your consultant will recommend the best option for your eye anatomy and lifestyle.
For a deeper look at individual lens prices, see our guides to EDOF lens cost, trifocal IOL cost and implant lens options. If you are over 45 and mainly want freedom from reading glasses, our presbyopia lens replacement guide explains the options.
What the per-eye price includes
Our lens replacement prices are all-inclusive. When you compare quotes between clinics, check carefully what sits inside the headline figure — some advertised "from" prices exclude scans, the premium lens or aftercare. At our partner clinics, the per-eye price covers:
- Your initial consultant assessment and biometry scans
- The surgery itself, theatre and hospital fees
- Your chosen intraocular lens (monofocal, EDOF, multifocal or toric)
- Post-operative eye drops
- Follow-up reviews at one week and four weeks
There are no separate facility fees or hidden extras. See the full breakdown on our refractive lens exchange cost guide or the main RLE prices page.
Cost for both eyes
Because vision correction usually aims to balance both eyes, most patients have lens replacement in both. As the price is quoted per eye, the total is roughly double the single-eye figure:
- Monofocal, both eyes: from around £5,800
- EDOF, both eyes: around £7,592
- Multifocal / trifocal, both eyes: around £8,600
Both eyes are usually treated within one to two weeks of each other, or on the same day where clinically suitable. Your consultant will advise the safest timing for your eyes. Wondering whether lenses or laser suit you better after 50? Read lens replacement vs laser eye surgery over 50.
Finance and paying monthly
You do not have to pay the full per-eye price up front. 0% APR finance is widely available, letting you spread the cost of each eye over 12 months or longer:
- Self-pay: pay per eye, or for both eyes together.
- 0% finance: from approximately £242/month per eye for a monofocal lens over 12 months.
- Longer plans: extended terms reduce the monthly amount — see our 0% APR lens replacement finance and general finance options.
